If anyone wants to meet up for a beer, I wanna know about it.  You can be as anonymous as you want, I would just like to speak face to face with some like minded Men like myself.  I am from Canada, and have not been to the rally since 2009.  It’s gonna be great!  It is expected that over 750,000 different visitors will come to the rally this year.  My favorite hangout is the Full Throttle Saloon, but any other meetup location can be set later and secretly.

I understand if you don’t want to for any reason.

Peace Brothers.

To expect more from women is just a FANTASY created by society and reinforced by the unconditional love that we experienced from our Mothers. The key to freedom is the understanding that the woman you meet is not going to fantastically love you like your Mother did. If you buy into the fantasy, then she is your new master. If you do not buy into the fantasy, then she is nothing, and you retain your freedom.

I’d be willing to bet there is a high density of MGTOW at Sturgis to begin with so hunt around a little and you may spot a few.

It is for very good reasons the Devil chose to tempt Eve not Adam...

Too crowded. Way too many people, especially the ones who ship their bikes in, which seemed like almost all of them the last time I went. I used to laugh at them, but then I realized they were the ones clogging up the streets with bikes they barely know how to ride, driving prices into the stratosphere because they’re willing to pay $10 for a can of beer, and basically making the whole event seem like “Disney’s Biker Experience”.

Some of the best riding anywhere is in the Black Hills. Just not the first week in August. Go in October.

Having to make it dependable again will keep me from taking any long trips on it. But like Sidecar says, a couple of months after the rally would be a good time to travel to SD. I like camping without so many mosquitoes.

Quad carbs need some TLC to idle correctly. I am making progress because it would not rev beyond 6000 rpm before. Now it will scream to the redline but don’t like idle or any rpm less than 3000. I believe the valves are in need of adjusting before I can fix the carbs properly. I owned a gs750 years ago and until I set the valves I was chasing my tail trying to make it run correctly.

Enjoy yourself BVC.

I was bound to be misunderstood, and I laugh at those who misunderstand me. Kind mockery at the well intentioned, but unfettered cruelty towards those would be prison guards of my creative possibilities. This so as to learn as much from misunderstanding as from understanding. Taking pleasure in worthy opponents and making language fluid and flowing like a river yet pointed and precise as a dagger. Contradicts the socialistic purpose of language and makes for a wonderful linguistic dance, A verbal martial art with constant parries that hone the weapon that is the two edged sword of my mouth.

I think trailers attract them. Another reason to avoid SD during Trailer Week.

If you don’t have a four column manometer I strongly advise getting one. They make syncing carbs a hell of a lot simpler. You have to be careful with the mercury, but it’s still better than spending all that time futzing and tweaking, especially considering there’s always at least one adjustment screw that’s impossible to get at. I’m looking for a digital quad model to get rid of the mercury, but the only ones I’ve found are for twins, which require too much connecting and disconnecting on the quads. It’s so much nicer just to hook up once and tweak each valve once to line them all up, even with mercury.

What day? I’m from the area.

I will arrive on Aug 1, and will have lots of free time on the 2nd and 3rd.  The 4th onwards, I have some visiting to do.

We could set up a temporary email to connect in a less public way…these walls have eyes…lol.

Just bought a XR650L this week.  Gonna reclaim my youth and get in shape trail riding lol.  My usual bike is a big fat Valkyrie.

Older bikes are so much fun…it’s great when they come back to life.  Have fun Harpo.

Since it’s a rebuild it’s probably worth pulling and stripping them to get out all the crud, gum, and varnish all in one go. Start out clean to eliminate as many confounding factors as possible going forward. It’s a lot of work up front but saves even more work up ahead.

@harpomason: Can you get your hands on some non-ethanol gas? I’ve found that helps a lot when bringing back an old engine, especially if it’s been fed a lot of ethanol in the past.

Older bikes are so much fun…it’s great when they come back to life.

Older bikes are about the only ones worth owning. If you need a computer and a $10k software license from BMW just to work on your bike it just ain’t worth it.
