1. The Roman Empire

2. Sun Tzu’s Art of War

I am open for discussion, tell me what you love about the above two things, ask questions and let’s brainstorm! Want to make an old man happy, ask me for my opinion on these things. (Secretly loves to give advice/opinions)

(you know, like the late times, the firsts Claudian emperors, the christian prosecution… ).

Mine are the Augustus period (is amazing that how one single man built an empire and become emperor) and the Five Good Emperors (Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius).

We are at the dawn of a New Era. We are the Vanguard.-Greg Honda.

Sun Tzu applies to all walks of life, not just to military strategy. It is a must read for anyone who wants to succeed in competitive endeavors.

From Julius Caesar onward would have been a great era to be a part of. Just the feeling of knowing that you had a hungry and ready for war Empire at your back. I always think of the quote from Gladiator where Maximus states something along the lines of “…..The world is dark, Rome is the light..”

Although, I have to say I do love Octavian. The way he outfoxed Anthony at sea was pure genius. I think Octavian is a prime example of a smart Roman Emperor that definately used the Art of War, even if he knew not the books themselves…

The Emperor: “Everything that has transpired has done so according to my design. Your friends, up there on the sanctuary moon, are walking into a trap, as is your Rebel fleet. It was *I* who allowed the Alliance to know the location of the shield generator. It is quite safe from your pitiful little band. An entire legion of my best troops awaits them. Oh, I’m afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive.”

Seemingly Ol’Palpy had everything under control. He laid a trap. He chose his battleground in a way that would favour his forces. He controlled the battle on so many levels…  Is the outcome in the movie Return of the Jedi an accurate one? Or is there a way to explain the loss of the Battle of Endor with the writings of Sun Tzu??

What do you have to say about the Art of War?

There is so much. The sheer genius of an ancient text that still applies to the modern day. In its pages you can adapt his teachings for resolving any conflict you would run into today. Such examples: Convincing someone to do something that you want to do, but letting them think it was their idea. Co-worker hogging all the spotlight? Wait until you have the time to do a project that you know you can do better than them, play on/subtly highlight their weaknesses. If you can’t win a battle in life, be patient, and wait for an opportunity where you can’t lose.
