As an added benefit, HR had all the passwords they used to get on email sites, blogs, or whatever.

At least one man got fired because of the contents of an email he sent. (Stupid s~~~ should have minded his f~~~ing language!)

My friend asked and was told they were permanently storing all emails and web surfing. They were required (they said) to do this under the Sarbanes–Oxley law. (I think the Patriot Act must be involved in this too.)

He also noticed that none of the female employees were getting summoned. The gal who sat near him spent a big part of her day surfing soap opera sites and celebrity gossip blogs. Not a peep from HR.

Frankly, even your at home internet use is not private these days, and it ever was. It’s all on multiple servers – emails, web addresses, the whole bit. That goes for the phone numbers you called too, and for all I know, what was said.

Just ’cause I’m paranoid doesn’t mean someone’s not out to get me.

I am going to have to say tough s~~~ to the people surfing at work. Use your phone if you want to goof off at work.

I agree! They should be looking for a better job – without getting caught of course. A wise man and CEO said, “always be looking for your next job.”

It is that patriarchal double standard that we all know and love.

It’s everywhere, isn’t it? Captain Capitalism writes about his job experiences and HR depts. in his blog. ( http://captaincapitalism.blogspot.com/ ) Everywhere we look, men are getting the shaft in corporate life.

Now workers are basically free agents, like in sports, where you are working for one company for x number of years and then jumping to another “team” for x number of years, and so on. Employees are much more expendable these days, especially those who don’t brown nose and play office politics to get promoted, instead of actually being a superior worker and asset.

Of course the way business is being done these days may or may not dictate some of these changes, for better or worse, but it’s definitely evidence of a decline in culture and the identity of the private corporation.

I think most of these occupy Wall Street people think they are protesting corporations because they are inherently evil in their minds when in reality it is the modern ethics of the corporation which is really what they are blaming. If they want to occupy something, then start protesting outside of financial institutions.

So true in my field.  I am a carpenter’s apprentice and seen this happen to a lot of older guys.  I also experience the “being just a number” thing a lot.  I can get layed off literally for any reason, including the reason of the journeyman simply not liking me.  That is to quote a union rep too.

I got laid off from a job one time for misplacing 2 drills and a laser level in the wrong tool box.  We found them the next day.

The funny thing is that they expect me to support their retirement fund.
