This is no big deal, but Im wondering if the mods are aware: it seems some of the threads made in the past few days have been lost.

I made one entitled Site Apprecciation, and one entitled Privacy and Information Brokers.I dont see them anywhere. Again no worries if it was lost. This is a free site and its no skin off my back. Just wondering if you were aware of this.

NO the threads aren’t lost. We have a full backup of the database from this afternoon with EVERYTHING in the last 3 days, however some replies are bad…. filled with all kinds of junk and totally broke the search. A forum without a search is f~~~ing useless. And I need it because people address s~~~ to me, so I REALLY need to be able to search for “KM” or “Keymaster” or I’m blind.

We have been on it for 18 hours straight and couldn’t keep you waiting any more with a forum paused and not accepting posts. So a couple of users wrote in and said “Man it’s no big deal, just get open up the forums again” and so we restored to a “golden master” from July 05 and will figure out a way to merge the newest CLEAN data with this database. However it’s not that simple, because if we open the forums and you create post number 9999…. and the July 07 “site appreciation” thread is also 9999 then that will overwrite this. So you can see the dilema.

I’m just taking a break from looking at database tables for a whole day.

Gonna have to pay me. Always appreciate your work KeyMaster.

If it would expedite things, why not make a post containing the text of the “lost” posts &/or threads?

I think that would just be a side track from the database merge. At this point it’s enough that the site is up at all without adding in more temporary rubber patch jobs.

Even in the best designed databases of any complexity live merges can be tricky and tedious. It can be like a game of 52 pickup where you have to re-sort multiple decks only with many more categories than just hearts, clubs, diamonds, and spades, and people keep tossing more cards onto the pile. I expect over the next few days we’ll start seeing missing threads reappear a few at a time until they are all restored to the live database. Personally I’d prefer @keymaster to concentrate on that so we can be back up to full steam as quickly as possible.

Most sites like this would just go off line entirely until everything was 100%. Or simply restore from backup and write off the last few days posts entirely. That @keymaster and crew (is there really a crew?) have gone to the effort of finagling on a live site so we have somewhere to go in the interim while he slaves away restoring the limboed data shows a lot more effort and dedication than I normally would expect from what is essentially a hobby website. And I’m not about to make any requests above and beyond a restoration effort that’s already been well above and beyond.

You want to recover your recent threads and start them over?
EVERYTHING is accessible exactly as it was here at 7:30 PM today at….

Yes really. It’s a Twin site exactly like this one. Except it’s password protected. Just log in with the same credentials. And if you want to recover something for the next 3 days…. it’s all there!!! How awesome is that.

I can’t believe I didn’t think of this sooner. Thanks Cipher for sparking the thought! This way if it’s REALLY important to you and you want your threads back it’s just a MINIMAL effort to go get it, copy the s~~~ and and start a new one here. Do the same with your replies if you want. (Just be aware you can’t search the forums over there). And now everything will be nicely created on TOP of what we have here. Sidecar is right. It’s a real bitch to do what we’re trying to do and its playing with fire. This is the ultimate solution for anyone who’s p~~~ed their threads and replies are missing in the last 3 days.
