Does anyone else here shave “old school” style?  I’m talking about wet shaving with a good ‘ol double edge razor?  I use a heavy aggressive Parker 24C.  I also use a badger hair shaving brush, Arko (sp?) shaving soap, and Astra platinum blades.  Anyone else still do this or am I an oddball?

I joined the Army when I turned 17 and was never going to be a very hairy type of guy, (still aren’t, even today in  my forties).

But the Army being the way they are insisted that every soldier learned how to shave and made it part of their morning routine.

Anyway the razors they used (I think) are the same ones you describe above, you have to place a new blade in them and screw them down tight and you could use both sides until the blade dulled.

So as you have probably already guessed, a few of us younger lads decided that we didn’t actually need a blade and simply went through the motions of putting on the shaving lather and scraping out faces clean of it to simulate shaving.

Sadly I got busted by my NCO one day and he made me actually shave properly (with a blade) while he stood watching, by the end of it my face was a bloodied mess, but he kindly loaned me some of his aftershave. What a f~~~ing way to have your first real shave! LOL

They did heaps of s~~~ like that when we were doing recruit training.

3 Months of utter torture both mental and physical, but I can’t say I regret one minute of it, I went from being a scared wimpy little s~~~ to something resembling the beginnings of a man by the end of it.

The harder the fight the sweeter the victory

Haha!  Great story brother!  Yes, these double egde razors can be tricky.  There are a million different kinds (mild to aggresive) and weights (light to heavy).  Then there’s 2 piece, 3 piece, and twist to open.  The blade/razor combo makes all the difference to each individual face.  It takes some experimenting to find the right combo for your particular skin/beard type.  The wrong combo  will cut your face all to hell. I made the mistake of thinking  it would be cool to try a straight razor…MISTAKE!  I damn near cut my head off!  Haha!

Oh well, probably more than you wanted to know about shaving…it’s just one of those enjoyable and “manly” things I like to do.
