Now, when you read this, it will make me sound like a horrible person…but hear (er, read) me out.

After dealing with the cats my ex left with me for a year now, I found out my finances would be quite literally improved by not having the 3 cats anymore, but I would keep one for company’s sake (and she’s a much cleaner and less wild cat).  The one I’m keeping isn’t one of the cats my ex left me.  My friend and I released the other 3 to a neighborhood I used to live in that was quite cat-friendly.  I did this because adoption agencies told me I’d be better off paying the pet deposit for each cat ($300 each) and I’d likely have them for months anyway, and shelters charge over $100 around here to relinquish them.  So, the only logical solution I could think of was to…let them go.

Part of me feels extreme guilt, but I’m trying to ignore my emotions on this.  Waking up this morning and not hearing my door being clawed at and pounded on hours before my alarm went off was rather relieving, really.  I kinda felt like there was a great weight lifted off of me.

The most humane solution I guess.
When you see how people get rid of their pets sometimes, letting them go is actually not that bad.
My friend knew a guy who was so bored that the neighbour’s (unneutered male) cat (aka stinky p~~~ all over the place) would p~~~ everywhere near his home. So he put some meat and bricks in a trap cage, the cat got stuck in the cage trying to get the meat.
Then guess what, he threw the cage in a pond.

It is a common failing of childhood to think that if one makes a hero out of a demon the demon will be satisfied.

Do you have a backyard? Put them out there. Do not let them come inside ever again. Sure, leave out water and maybe food. They will either leave or stay.

Society asks MGTOWs: Why are you not making more tax-slaves?

I would have definitely considered that if I did, but paying for all the food and litter was getting to costing me nearly $100 extra a month on occasion…and that’s buying the cheaper stuff.

The line was crossed when one of them literally knocked a cup of water several feet away onto my lap…which had my laptop on it.  The keyboard and mousepad are now screwed up.  I had JUST made my final payments on it a couple of months ago, too.  Now, not only is my carpet damaged from cats trying to force their way into my bedroom and I have a near-permanent cat urine smell in my apartment that drives me nuts, but I have a currently inoperable laptop (unless I get an external mouse/keyboard…and HOPEFULLY that will temporarily fix the problem).

As long as you didn’t toss them out in the middle of the interstate I see no issue with it.

If she wanted her cats she should have been responsible enough to come get them and find a place to keep them until she could bring them home.

That has nothing to do with you. They know their territory and will travel miles to get back to it. Can be quite troublesome for someone who tries to take his cats with him while moving or in your case get rid of them.

Spend the money on a dog.

That’s actually the next animal I’ll get if I get any again.  I’d love a rottweiler (they’re my favorite breed), but they’re either 1) too expensive for me at the moment or 2) not allowed in apartments.

I’ve had so many friends tell me to get a little lap dog.  There’s just something about little dogs that annoy me as much as angry cats do.  I don’t feel like they’d protect the home as well, and it would feel like having a baby 24/7 (only because of its size…I know dogs should be given attention like babies regardless).

So, I’d have to wait until I get a house.  Oh well, someday!
