I’ve been looking for a new pet the last few days, and lo and behold, this guy called out to me.  I picked him up yesterday.

A breeder was getting rid of him for a lesser price, and you’ll never guess why:

He has refused to mate, or pair up with another bird for 2.5 years and has had no offspring 🙂 .  Allow me to introduce you to what may be a pioneering BGHOW (Bird Going His Own Way lol)  Because this guy wouldn’t “put out”, his breeder decided he wasn’t worth keeping around, so I got him from her for a steal: half-price at $1200.

This dude, who I’ve dubbed Albert, in honour of one of our great members, as well as one of history’s greatest MGHOW, is an African Grey Parrot (Psittacus erithacus) .   This particular species of Parrot have the highest vocabulary in the animal kingdom.

He’s not talking much yet, as it will take him a while to adapt to his new home.  I am sure, since he’s been owned by a woman that most of the phrases he uses will be flowery, weird bulls~~~.  I can assure you I’ll be teaching him a “proper” vocabulary.

On a positive note, when I asked him what he thought of feminism, he made an odd and loud farting noise and flapped his wings.  That might well be one of the best responses a man can make.

now I have a Harlequin Macaw,.. generically named, Harley… she likes to cuss,.. actually offended the guy who delivered my refrigerator….apparently a bird has never called him a fat bastard before……. she likes horror movies,.. and when she gets startled she falls off of her perch…pretty funny to see

The Harlequin Macaw has pretty awesome plumage.  I’d not heard that name prior to you posting it, so had to look it up.  That’s a very nice bird.

I had started my pursuit of looking for a bird by looking at pictures.  I was blown away by one in particular, a Hyacinth Macaw, and went looking for one (for an extremely short period of time, like one hour).  After talking to a couple of breeders, the lowest price tag I found was $17,000 dollars;  that idea sort of went out the window.
