Looking to get some thoughts or personal experience on getting off the tap chemicals and moving to filtered water, has anyone used carbon filters? Any good?

Any advise at all would be appreciated.

As do i and with health and overall fitness in mind men should be drinking near a litre a day as a standard.(depends on if your taking supplements Creatine is a killer) .Im sure your aware of Fluoride in the tap water and the dangers of long term exposure to the brain and your whole well being Especially in young children ! .I drink Reverse Osmosis bottled water that comes in 15Ltr BPA free plastic drum Containers. You can buy pumps filters and machines to make your own if you like but i found them quite costly ….

If you need further Information or studies on the chemicals in tap water just let me know.

Cheers

I buy filtered water 5 gallons at a time from the water filter machine at my local grocery store. At 25 cents a gallon, you can’t beat it… I drink it and cook with it, the cat gets it… even the plants get it. I keep about 30 gallons of water on hand as well, you don’t want to run out of water when you live in the desert.

I also have a rule that I never turn down a free bottle of water. I’ve probably got them stashed two or three bottles in the car, a few in my storage space… I’m really not going to the tap for water unless I absolutely have to.

In addition to what Liberty (BPA free plasticĀ  OR GLASS containers) and Doc (filtered) said, I add 1 teaspoon of real sea salt (doesn’t have to come from the ocean) with trace minerals to every gallon of water I drink. I’ve been doing it for 8 to 10 years and I still have a full head of hair and it’s only about 50% grey (I’m 60).

The reasons being:

  • Your blood more closely resembles seawater than any other liquid.
  • Since your body is electric, salt water conducts electricity better than fresh water.
  • Before you were born you were encased/floating in a saline solution.
  • If you sweat during exercise/work etc., you need to replace those electrolytes, which trace minerals provide.

I hope this helps.

Take Care, Beware and Be Good!

Joe

HDPE or something is good. Polycarbonate is a really hard plastic, also used in bullet resistant glass. If you can squeeze the water bottle, you are probably good, but look up the recycling code on the bottle. I filter water only when I am out hiking, for health reasons. Otherwise, I just drink tap water. I drink a lot of water, 2-3 gallons a day, generally.
