Contrary to popular belief you will not be in danger, most people speak English, and you indeed can buy a home or rent.

You can get beach front property, 3 bedroom 2bath home for 500-700 a month including all appropriate utilities/internet/trash etc (In a upper middle income area to boot) A large one bedroom, 200! Border cities are great because you can enter the US at your leisure in 30 mins or less. If you fork over 120 bucks to US customs and qualify you can get a “Sentri pass” which is a fast lane for crossing, for 5 years. Cutting crossing times by 3/4.

This is my long term plan. I intend to work until 50 and retire. By no means will 50 give me an income that will work in the US, but in mexico that income will be 3-5x the value. I’ve seen many men get comfortable in Mexican Boarder towns and they start to move deeper into Mexico to find even cheaper homes.

I also happen to know people who moved to Central America and South America. So far, they are doing all right.

But why a border town? I’ve been in TJ, I’m Mexican, and TJ is a s~~~ hole and the point of going to Mexico is never to return to the USA since you would have a search warrant or something like that for not paying the alimony, they would instantly find out at the US customs.

Unfortunately Tj is a lackluster if not terrible place to be, but that’s like judging the entire US on how Detroit looks today. Once you hit Rosarito/Playas which are 20 minute drives(from the border), you start to hit a well developed area. As far as why a border town, well its a number of reasons.

#1 Getting to the US is fast, most new comers to Mexico tend to want to be near the boarder. In time, with comfort they branch out and start to explore and relocate to Ensenada or inland to the mainland.
#2 Border towns have a high American population, more Americans around the new comers the better they feel.

As far as traveling to Mexico to avoid alimony, warrants, or child support. That’s not an issue if you don’t have any of those things to worry about. We’re talking about retirement. If you barely have enough to survive on your retirement in the US, you will have a decent surplus in Mexico.
Heck theirs a ton of men who work in the US side of border towns and go home in mexico. A $12 hr job affords them the ability to support a family of 4. They still struggle but its not impossible like the US with that low of an income.

On that note, if you haven’t traveled around Baja California in the last 2 years you will be shocked how bad ass its looking.

Yeah man you can do alot of research on what you want with a simple google search. IF you are the type that doesn’t mind being away from the border and going deep into mexico you can find awesome places for cheaper than I mentioned. Like this the cost is approximately 360 a month. I would love to help more but alot is going to rest on what you want and how far your willing to travel. I’m going to be in San Diego for at least 3 more years, and more than likely going to stay here after school. When ever you want to take a look in person I can show you around all the nice places on the Border, or we can figure something out as far as getting some road trip action in.

Just make sure you get a passport!

One of my dad’s cousins retired in Mexico. He seems happy enough. He does not feel safe though. It is not a border town but in an area of great natural beauty farther in the interior.

Yeah I would prefer to stay in Mexico myself, primarily because I know I wont need a lot of cash to visit friends in the US or vice versa. I plan on being within ear shot of the border (30 mins) in one of the premo spots. No need to do anything other than drive to visit family and s~~~ like that.

Yep. Exactly that. Where I live (Latvia), my rent+internet+gas/electricity accumulates to 120 Euros/month at Winter.

At Summer 80 Euros/month. Modern apartment, near a lake with a beach, forest, police, markets, parks etc. And 15-30 minutes from Riga with everything else.

Im fine not going anywhere else atm.

Try other places, Chile, Uruguay, for example. I did alot of internet research on Uruguay and found it to be one of the best options. A hellish scenario indeed, since it seems nothing these days (including vehicles) is immune to being hacked. I can also forsee a future where environmentalist nutjobs get all older cars banned so everyone has no choice but to drive a death trap.
