Is there any real benefit in building other than knowing exactly what kind of materials the house has been built with and the fact that it looks the way you like it from the start?

When I was younger, I would take apart my toys and put them back together. Sometimes it worked and other times it didn’t, but I know for sure that I’d have no major issues with patching up a house if it’s not entirely how I want it to be.

EDIT: Little clarification, I wouldn’t be building the house myself as I don’t have the knowledge to do so… yet.

Furthermore, houses are taxed ad valorem and hinder one’s mobility, thus making them unwise in this day and age.

Besides, once the house is paid off, taxes are virtually nothing.

Society asks MGTOWs: Why are you not making more tax-slaves?

The fickle job market is what would worry me about having a permanent residence in the form of a house. You get something built and then a couple years down the road you get laid off or have to re-locate and there you are stuck with a house you have to put on the market. Renting would probably be a better option but keeping an eye on things from several states away could be an issue.

As far as houses go, I think just below 2,000 square feet is adequate. Just build a smaller house and have a big garage or separate building to do all your hobbies in.

The Children of Doom... Doom's Children. They told my lord the way to the Mountain of Power. They told him to throw down his sword and return to the Earth... Ha! Time enough for the Earth in the grave.
