I remember scuttling around Central Yharnam, wondering how the f~~~ you take on more than two of the same enemy and wondering if I had the gall to continue playing. Slowly but surely I familiarised myself with the mechanics, learning to parry on brick trolls and that one f~~~ing executioner. Eventually I became confident and after finally defeating the first two bosses, that confidence was revoked. Now, in Cathedral Ward I had no idea where anything was, where to go or what these new enemies did and after acquiring some new clothes I got picked up by some kind of invisible creature and thought WHAT THE F~~~.

The game is great and if you haven’t played it already, having completed it I can hole-heartedly recommend it. If you have played it, what was your most memorable moment?

My most memorable moment (Spoilers ahead) elicited an emotional response out of me which I found incredibly peculiar.

In the Forbidden Woods you meet a man known as The Suspicious Beggar. At first I took him for a standard mob and I went in for the backstab but I was surprised when after hitting him nothing happened. I spoke to the man and looked around where he was just hunched over. There were 3 bodies, 2 older women and 1 little boy, clearly devoured by beasts. I thought damn, this guy’s family has just been murdered, and look how injured he is (he was covered in bandages), he must have only barely survived and was mourning for his son when I arrived. He asked if I knew of a safe place, so naturally I sent him to Odeon Chapel. I found it weird how he didn’t mention the bodies, but I guessed he was just in shock.

Then later I went to Odeon Chapel to check up on him. The old lady, whom I had sent there earlier, had been eaten. I was confused, could it have been the man? If there was a quick-save option I would have struck him down where he sat but I was afraid of what I’d be missing out on if he died. When I spoke to him he thanked me for sending him there, then rewarded me some beast blood pellets. I knew it was him but I didn’t want to act upon it, maybe it was just a scripted event after beating a boss that was meant to signify that no one is safe no matter where they go? I decided to continue with my game, only returning after the next boss was slain.

Another one had been eaten, this time the nun. Okay, enough was enough, time to see what happens when I kill this guy. I approached him, I hit him once; nothing. I hit him again; nothing. The third time I hit him. Well. He was found guilty after his confession, his confession being transforming into a huge beast and attempting to kill me.

After slaying* (*cheesing) him, it dawned on me. If I had acted earlier. If I had realised that it wasn’t his son he was hunched over but instead his food, the nun and the old woman would still have been alive and it was my fault they died.

F~~~.
