The media have praised her as a hero, even mother of the year, and of course it is a female hitting a male. However, if it were a father hitting his son like that it would most definitely be called abuse. The mother of year should really be the mother who raised her child properly so that he was not participating in a riot, but what do I know. And a mother of the year wouldn’t have to strike her child because he would respect her. Any thoughts?

In this case, I can understand the mothers reaction. The son was most likely going to commit a crime that may have ended his employable career and probably sent him to jail. This is what happens when society is destabilized, the nuclear family is destroyed and the children run wild.
